In celebration of European Robotics Week, the “Life of a Robot” workshop is designed for students in grades 1 through 4 to introduce them to the world of robotics in a fun and creative way. The workshop aims to help students understand the basics of robotics, see how robots work, and inspire them to think creatively and solve problems through hands-on activities.
The workshop begins with an introduction to robots, discussing what they are, where we encounter them, and the various tasks they perform. Through pictures and short videos, students will explore different types of robots they might recognize, such as home assistants, industrial robots, and medical robots.
Next, students will learn about the main parts of a robot, such as sensors, motors, processors, and power sources, and participate in a hands-on activity by drawing or assembling a simple robot on paper. Following this, they will get to observe a robot projected through a DIY projector they will make themselves, providing a unique visual experience.
The workshop also includes building a simple robotic hand, allowing students to explore how robots move and respond to instructions. Finally, students will participate in a fun challenge where they program the robot to complete basic tasks, giving them a taste of teamwork and problem-solving. The workshop wraps up with a discussion on what they learned and brainstorming ideas for robots they’d love to create themselves.
