The Swarms & AI Lab (SAIL), under the leadership of Prof. Oren Gal, is a cutting-edge research group embedded within the Department of Marine Technologies at the University of Haifa. The lab tackles core challenges in deploying intelligent autonomous systems in real-world, complex, and unstructured environments — maritime, terrestrial, medical, and off-road.
SAIL’s mission is to build robust, scalable, adaptive, and resilient swarm systems that can interpret high-level intent and operate collaboratively under constraints such as low power, limited communication, and uncertain terrain. SAIL working with institutions including MIT, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, LSU, and industry partners such as Bosch, Rafael, Elbit Systems, and Komatsu—provides access to cutting-edge capabilities and accelerated development timelines.
